HOW TO BECOME A REFEREE:

For those 13 years old and up, we strongly recommend the State Referee Certification Course:
Click here for a list of available courses

In order to complete the Grassroots Referee certification the following steps must be completed:

Register at the link above and complete ALL online assignments associated with the US Soccer Learning Center Grassroots Referee course. After registering, in the Assignments Tab you will find the following assignments that must be 100% completed BEFORE attending the Field Training Event.

  • Online Grassroots Referee Course
  • Intro to Safe and Healthy Playing Environments
  • First Time Grassroots Quiz
  • LOTG Update
  • If you are 18 years of age or older, you must ALSO complete SafeSport and the NCSI Background Screening
  • If you are awaiting the NCSI background screening to clear, you may attend the FTE prior to this occurring.

Attend the New Referee Field Training Event (FTE). The date and location of the field session are in the course details. If you miss the FTE, you will be transferred to a general holding course in the LC and you will need to attend a different FTE.

Get Certified, then Get Assigned! Once you've gotten your certification, make sure to contact us to get assigned to games at UFA.

UFA offers an In-House Referee Academy Program

This program is for for young players between the ages of 10-15 . This means we can assign you to the younger recreational games and you receive payment without needing to be officially certified. We strongly encourage all to get certified (once you are 13 years old), as there are many rules/laws with which you may not be familiar.

To get started in the In-House Referee Academy program, you must attend at least one training session. Sign up at the links below:

Referee Payment

All payments will be processed through the assigning platform, Assignr. Please email referee@unitedfa.org for the UFA link.
